Joy Slade

Biography

Joy Slade developed an interest in music at Applecroft Junior School in Welwyn Garden City. She participated as a keen choir member and recorder player in performances and recordings (on vinyl!) of two Cantatas which were written for the school by Iain Kendall and Steuart Allin. She later studied clarinet and piano in Sussex and trained for teaching in Leicestershire.

After teaching in mainstream Primary and Secondary education in Kent and Nottinghamshire Joy Slade was appointed to a teaching post with responsibility for music at Ash Lea School, a Special School in Nottinghamshire. It was here that she wrote much of the music available on this website. After several years leading the Primary Team at the school she joined Nottinghamshire County Council Inclusion Services, co-ordinating a team supporting pupils with special educational needs in mainstream schools, advising on inclusive practice.

Now retired from the above post Joy Slade is spending time developing her previous musical work.  In her spare time she enjoys running and keeping fit; cooking; reading, and singing in a local Choral society.  She has two daughters and seven grandchildren.
