descripção This setting of Psalm 23 uses words from 'The Jerusalem Bible', pub. Darton Longman & Todd and Doubleday & Co. Ltd. © 1966. They are reproduced with kind permission from the publishers. It is written for SATB voices with keyboard accompaniment and is in in ternary form (A-B-A). Section A has a time signature of 12/8: four three-bar phrases follow a two-bar introduction (the ending contains an extra bar). Section B has a time signature of 9/8 and has 4 x 4-bar phrases.

This song was written originally as part of an educational musical about the story of David and Goliath. The music of this song is intended to portray the feelings of David as a shepherd boy, tending his sheep in the natural environment which fills him with awe and wonder. In the middle section he recognises the difficulties and challenges that life presents but is confident that, with God's support, he can overcome them. It is intended to be lyrical, with a 'folk-song' feel.
